Museum of popular customs in Sliven
in 19thC and the beginning of 20thC /page 1/
In one of the oldest parts of the town of Sliven,
called Kaftandjiiska, unknown masters from the town
of Tryavna built a symmetrical house in the first
quarter of 19thC. The house was commissioned by Dyado
(Grandfather) Boyo, a merchant of frieze (homespun
woollen cloth). It is one of the most valuable examples
of architecture from the Revival period.
As it is now, the house and the yard are divided
by a wall which forms two houses - the one which belonged
to dyado Boyo, known as the house of Petkoolu, and
the so-called Arnautkina house.
In 1963 dyado Boyo's house was turned into a museum
where an exposition was displayed, recreating the
unique atmosphere of orderliness and cosiness of the
houses in Sliven in 19thC.
Dyado Boyo's house was built in 1813. It is situated
at the back of a spacious yard, covered with cobblestone
in various symmetrical figures.
